Join us for an amazing trail adventure in the Stanislaus National Forest in Calaveras County, California, a joint venture with the Arnold Rim Trail Association (ARTA). Our campsite and trail work will be in Murphys, a small town southwest of Arnold, where we’ll be working close to camp on the Bamm Bamm and Wilma’s Wiggles trails. Come enjoy the outdoors, lend a hand, and be part of something special. We’ll be widening 1.5 miles of trail corridor, improving drainage, and clearing out copious amounts of “mountain misery” along the way. After the work, stick around for the local brew, enjoy a taste of Murphys with beer provided by Murphys Pourhouse.

V-O-Cal volunteers are, along with key partners, the magic ingredient that has made it possible for the East Bay Hills Trails Benefit to raise over $470,000 over the past 24 years to support trail building and volunteer trail work programs like V-O-Cal, the Bay Area Ridge Trail and more. We are hoping that you will be able to join us for a single shift or more to help make the 2026 East Bay Hills Trails Benefit Ride and Hike the best ever! Please use the sign up button to sign up now! As usual, if you want to sign up for consecutive days, you can camp with us and your meals will be included. Come for 2 days or more, and you probably will be able to join one of the hikes!

We return to working closely with the county’s amazing trail crew at beautiful Mt. Madonna County Park in Watsonville. We’ll be rerouting approximately 500 feet of the Redwood Trail, another section prone to erosion, and decommissioning the old trail. We’ll use grip hoists to move cut trees out of the new trail alignment

We’ll be working in the Tilden Nature Area, just a mile or two from downtown Berkeley. The trail winds through steeply canyon-incized laurel oak woodland with dappled shade and lots of foliage (including poison oak).

The second V-O-Cal project of 2026 will be at Mt. Madonna County Park near Watsonville. This is a beautiful park in Santa Clara County dominated by redwood forest. We’ll partially reroute the Meadow Trail to bypass an area prone to erosion, and decommission the old section of trail. We’ll also work with park staff, using grip hoists to move cut trees out of the new trail alignment. The work should be fun and rewarding!

This project combines trail work with a chance to explore China Camp State Park – a former 1880s Chinese shrimp-fishing village now managed entirely by Friends of China Camp (FOCC) volunteers.

It's time, yet again, to prepare for the 2026 VOCal Season! Woop woop! If you've ever asked yourself "how many tools DOES VOCal have?", "how do I repair this dang tool?", "what SHOULD go in all those green kitchen boxes, anyway?" etc - now is the time to come down and see for yourself! It takes a fair amount of effort to make sure that all those tools are in good shape to last through the project season, and the annual O'Tool Day is all about sharpening, cleaning, and repairing everything we need for a successful season. Please join us for our 2026 O'Tool Day to enjoy some St Patty's Day goodies while we do all we can to get ready for the upcoming season.

It is that time of year again! KICKOFF PARTY! Rain or Shine, we will have a kickoff party to celebrate all the fun projects we have on our plate this year. Join us from 2pm-5pm on February 22nd at 215 Myrtle St, Redwood City. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served.
